I founded Polyplay after more than 25 years in advertising and television as a creative working across ideas, production and post.
I was always frustrated by how expensive productions got, and by how much of that spend never made it onto the screen — so I wanted to build a company around the way production is changing, with technology clearing so many of the production barriers that often determined whether an idea got made or not.
The name says a lot about the philosophy. Poly means many: many disciplines, techniques and ways of making. Play represents experimentation, creativity and the freedom to combine them. That is still at the heart of the company: live-action, AI, VFX, design and post-production, brought together in whatever way best serves the idea.
Polyplay is deliberately an ever-evolving company. Technology is changing production quickly, but I don't see that as simply replacing people. It is creating new skills, new roles and new ways of working. I want Polyplay to be part of that growth, combining experienced creative judgement with emerging tools and helping shape what comes next.
What excites me most is how technology is beginning to level the playing field. For years, budgets have dictated how ambitious an idea could be: how many locations you could afford, how much could be built, or whether an idea survived at all. Those restrictions are starting to loosen. A smaller budget no longer has to mean a smaller idea.
With Polyplay establishing a permanent base at Docking Station in Chatham, the next stage is to bring filming, AI production, editing, colour and post closer together — building a genuinely hybrid studio that can keep evolving with the technology while keeping ideas at the centre.
